UAE: Sheikh Hamdan Greenlights Dh530 Million Expansion for Dubai's Educational Institutions
Project’s total number of seats to rise to 15,000 by 2033
In a groundbreaking development, Dubai has earmarked Dh530 million for the construction of a new school in Al Khawaneej and the expansion of an existing school in Al Barsha, as part of the ambitious 'Dubai Schools' project.
This financial allocation received the official approval of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. The decision aligns seamlessly with the goals outlined in the Dubai Social Agenda 33, a strategic initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The expansion initiative is set to make a substantial impact by adding over 6,400 seats, 295 classrooms, and 123 laboratories and specialized classrooms. This move is poised to elevate the total seating capacity of Dubai Schools to an impressive 15,000 by the year 2033.
Sheikh Hamdan expressed, “Aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, we are committed to establishing an innovative education system in Dubai that is capable of nurturing and empowering capable future leaders. Our ongoing commitment to creating a world-leading education system in Dubai aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, under the theme ‘Family: The Foundation of the Nation’.”
He further emphasized, “By fostering a culture of educational excellence, we aim to equip our youth with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. The new initiative to expand the Dubai Schools project will contribute to ensuring that the emirate’s school offerings meet and even exceed global benchmarks of educational excellence.”
The expansion of Dubai Schools is intricately woven into the fabric of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Dubai and positioning the emirate among the world's top 10 cities in this regard. The project is designed to build a world-class education system, emphasizing an increase in the number of schools and available seats, investment in cutting-edge technologies and facilities, and the promotion of innovation and creativity within the classroom.
Launched under the visionary leadership of Sheikh Hamdan in March 2021, the Dubai Schools project envisions a pioneering school model that provides high-quality education at an affordable cost. Furthermore, it strives to establish a new Emirati schooling system rooted in national values and delivering an exceptional standard of education.
The Al Khawaneej and Al Barsha schools stand as tangible outcomes of the Dubai Schools project. In its inaugural academic year, the project welcomed 1,205 students, a number that surged to 1,965 students in the second year. By the academic year 2023/2024, the enrolled student count reached an impressive 2,580, showcasing the project's swift and impactful growth. Notably, the schools boast a diverse student body, representing 38 different nationalities.
